Castelo de Vide

Le château entouré de maisons blanches se détache dans le paysage et est sans aucun doute la première surprise pour le visiteur. Vu du ciel, le paysage de l'Alentejo acquiert toute sa splendeur. De petits villages au milieu des champs s'étendent à perte de vue. Non loin, à près de 20 Kms, on aperçoit Marvão et un peu plus loin les terres d'Espagne.

Sur le versant Nord, entre le Château et la Fontaine du Bourg, une série de rues plus étroites délimitent le noyau historique du quartier Juif. La juiverie de Castelo de Vide est l'un des exemples les plus importants de la présence des juifs dans notre pays, datant du XIIIè siècle, époque de D. Dinis. C'est l'une des juiveries les mieux conservées du Portugal, où sont préservés les plus grands trésors d'architecture civile de l'époque gothique.

Promenez-vous, au hasard des rues escarpées et étroites et laissez-vous envahir par le charme de sa mémoire médiévale.

Mais Castelo de Vide possède d'autres monuments méritant une visite. Citons par exemple la Chapelle de Salvador do Mundo, la plus ancienne (fin du XIIIè siècle) dont l'intérieur est couvert de panneaux d'azulejos bleues et blancs, ou la Chapelle de São Roque construite au XVè siècle et reconstruite au XVIIIè siècle. Mais ce ne sont là que deux des 24 églises existantes.

Si vous avez encore du temps et si vous en avez envie, vous pouvez grimper au sommet frontalier de Castelo de Vide, où se trouve la Chapelle de Nossa Senhora da Penha et d'où vous aurez une autre perspective du bourg.

Castelo de Vide a toujours été connu pour ses richesses naturelles notamment pour ses thermes, dont l'eau possède des propriétés thérapeutiques. Il existe plusieurs fontaines celle de Vila et celle de Mealhada étant les plus connues. Toutefois nous devons vous mettre en garde. Vous devez savoir que, selon des croyances populaires, celui qui boit de l'eau de la Fontaine de Mealhada doit revenir à Castelo de Vide pour se marier.
