Óbidos

La très belle ville d'Óbidos, aux maisons blanches décorées avec des bougainvilliers et des chèvrefeuilles, fut conquise aux maures par le premier Roi du Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, en 1148. Plus tard, D. Dinis en fit don à son épouse, la Reine Santa Isabel. Depuis ce temps et jusqu'en 1883, la ville d'Óbidos et les terres alentours appartinrent toujours aux reines du Portugal.

Entouré par une ceinture de muraille et couronné par le château maure reconstruit par D. Dinis, aujourd'hui transformé en auberge, Óbidos est l'un des exemples les plus parfaits de notre forteresse médiévale. Comme à l'ancien temps, l'entrée se fait par la porte sud, de Santa Maria, embellie par une décoration d'azulejos datant du XVIIIè siècle.

À l'intérieur des murailles, qui sous le soleil couchant prennent une coloration dorée, on plonge dans un joyeux environnement médiéval, fait de rues tortueuses, de vieilles maisons blanchies à la chaux avec lesangles peints en bleu ou en jaune, aux fenêtres et aux sous pentes manuélines, qui rappellent que D. Manuel I (XVIè siècle) a fait ici de grands aménagements, avec beaucoup de fleurs et de plantes colorées.

N'oubliez pas de visiter l'Église Matrice de Santa Maria, la jolie chapelle de São Martinho et, à l'extérieur des murailles, l'église du Senhor da Pedra.

Parmi les évènements qui se déroulent annuellement à Óbidos retenons les Fêtes de la Semaine Sainte (où sont recréés les pas de la Voie Sacrée), le Festival de Musique Ancienne (Octobre) et, pour les plus gourmands, le Festival International du Chocolat (Novembre) dont fait partie un concours international où les recettes sont évaluées par un jury de spécialistes venus du monde entier.
