Sabrosa

Dans la région démarquée du Vin de Porto, Sabrosa conserve des vestiges d'une occupation de la période Néolithique (menhirs et dolmens) et de l'Âge de Fer, parmi lesquels se démarquent le "Castro da Sancha", modifié durant la romanisation.

Datant du Moyen Âge, citons le village de Provesende, aux abords de Sabrosa, dont la fondation est antérieure au Royaume du Portugal et quelques tombeaux paléochrétiens trouvés dans la région

C'est ici que naquit Fernão de Magellan, grand navigateur portugais du XVe siècle, le premier à effectuer le voyage de circumnavigation autour du monde.

Après la démarcation de la région du Douro pour la production de vin au XVIIIe siècle, le bourg connu un grand développement, datant notamment de cette époque une grande partie des maisons seigneuriales que vous retrouverez ici.
